2009 President's MessageIF YOU SEE ME GETTING SMALLER, I’M LEAVING…………… Or so goes the song written by Jimmy Webb, as it provides the perfect imagery for putting 2008 into our rearview mirror as we begin moving forward into 2009. By most measures the year past wasn’t great and no one was immune. Our financial chickens have come home to roost and with them all the stresses and strains on business and personal monetary circumstances. There simply isn’t enough room or time to list all of the negatives. On the other hand……. This is a time to look forward, not back. The New Year is upon us and we have no time to waste. It will certainly be a year of trials and tribulations as pressures abound; yet there is promise and opportunity for those companies and individuals who are willing to accept the prospect of change. Change is a powerful word that became a mantra for a presidential campaign and a directive by a nation of voters. For Trendl Associates, change has been the firm’s philosophical way of life since our inception in 2002 and we would like to take a moment to thank Mr. Obama for helping get the word out on our marketing initiative. Now the questions are what do we do? How do we do it and where do we go? Our advice is for businesses and people to embrace change not as something conceptual but rather, fundamental. Companies have a tremendous opportunity to throw out the old play book and move into new directions. Individuals have an opportunity to adjust to a new marketplace. The two will eventually converge. Healthcare, education, green technology, alternative energy, distressed financial workouts, public sector, are all growing industry sectors with positive employment outlooks for 2009 and beyond. Rather than dwell on the negative of 2008 or the next revolution; Trendl Associates would rather participate in the next evolution that the past year inspired. It’s time for companies to realign, re-establish themselves with new thought leaders and look to make strategic hires for their future. Individuals need to prepare by working harder, yes—working harder, re-educating themselves as the new thought leaders and if not rid themselves of any negativity from 2008 at least deeply suppress it. If firms and individuals can look past the last year and focus on moving forward; the interests of both will converge. The country will be better for it, corporations large and small will be better for it and the individual will be better for it. Then, when we have a spare moment to look in the rearview mirror, 2008 and all its baggage will disappear or be too small to even notice; at least that is what we think Jimmy was singing about.
